Welcome to the Excursional blog.  I’m Allan, a computer science student at Carleton University.  I’ve created this blog to help myself and others track the progress of a few mobile applications I’m making for Android.  The name Excursional Studios comes from the first app I started, Excursional.

Excursional (or Excursion Journal) is an application that, as its name implies, attempts to help its users document their excursions.  Some of the features that we’d like to see Excursional provide are:

  • Detailed GPS-based route tracking
  • Geotagging of pictures taken during the trip
  • Various metrics such as average speed, distance travelled, and the duration of the trip

The other project I’m working on is a simple note-taking application called MyNotes.  My intent with MyNotes is to create an application that has all the features that will help a user organize and track notes, without making the application too complicate to use.

Im Will from Cork in Ireland. The reason I am contacting you is in relation to mobile device app development. I’m not talking in terms of hiring you as a freelance developer but more of approaching you with the focus on setting up a business, thus taking equity share in the company.

I have a number of ideas in the music, payment and content delivery sectors. I am also talking to a mobile interface design specialist who’s from Dublin but currently working on a contract basis with Sony Ericsson. He seems very interested in this area as he has ambitions of being an entrepreneur, as do I. I guess I’m trying to figure out if this is the sort of opportunity you are looking for.

My own background is Economics and Computer Science, with the focus on Economics. I have a good understanding of the CS side but its a bit dated now and I’m far from a hardcore programmer. So my focus would be more on the business side of things.

Let me know what you think and maybe we could arrange to have a chat on the phone and if things are still interesting to you then maybe we could set up a web conference meeting for you, Kevin (the UI designer) and myself.

Hope to talk to you soon,
